Camera and The Tsars: A Romanov Family Album

description:

A collection of photographs dating from the mid 1850s through the 1960s. Primarily formal photos, emphasizing the extended Romanov family. In addition to factual information, the extensive captions include the author’s interpretations of her subjects.

unique features:

Includes many photos of the Konstantinovich, Mikhailovich, and Pavlovich branches of the imperial family, in addition to te families of Alexander II, Alexander III, and Nicholas II.

similar to:

Romanovs Revisited: 1860-1960

in my opinion:

Zeepvat's use of Grand Prince/Princess (rather than Grand Duke/Duchess) irritates some readers, but this in no way detracts from the value of the photos. Recommended for readers interested in more than Nicholas II.

Russian Painter - Mikhail Vasilievich Nesterov

Nesterov was one of Empress Alexandra's favorite painters, his picture of the Annuciation hung in the Mauve Room.  He worked for Grand Duchess Elizabeth in her Martha and Mary convent in Moscow.  Here's a bio.
