Nicholas II bustMarch 2002

Our bust was sculpted from images of Nicholas II taken at the beginning of his reign for the Imperial currency. These pictures were chosen as the basis for our sculpture because they showed a great deal of detail and there was a side view of the Tsar, a rare perspective as the Tsar disliked his profile.

Life-sized sculptures of Nicholas II are very rare - perhaps less than a dozen exist. Only a few copies of this bust will be made and this represents an opportunity to own a work of art that will become an instant heirloom. The bust is life-sized at 28 inches tall and weighs around 110 lbs.

The artist who has created our bust is the noted Romanian neoclassical sculptor Nae Ionescu, whose works grace collections in Europe and the USA. Soon he will create a companion sculpture of the Empress Alexandra.

We feel our bust is unique it will captures the real personality and human side of the last Tsar as well as his majesty. The sculpture shows the Tsar in uniform and great attention has been given to details - such as double-headed eagles on the buttons, medals and gold braid.

The shape of the bust and its base were patterned on a bust of Count Alexander Sheremetev by Pietro Canonica, which was made in 1910 and is now in the Hermitage in St. Petersburg.

The eagle in the panel on the front was taken from a chronicle of the war from 1914-1916 printed by the Imperial Court. It is in Neo-slavic style based on Imperial eagles from the 17th century at the time of the foundation of the Romanov Dynasty.

The cost of the sculpture is only $1600 plus shipping. Normally a bust like this would cost $7,000-$8,000 and we are very fortunate to be able to offer it at this price.

It is estimated that 5 day air freight shipping of the piece will cost around $150. You can use Visa, MasterCard or American Express or pay by check.

If you would like to ask questions about the bust - or see previous works we have commissioned from the artist email Bob Atchison at boba@pallasweb.com.
